Easy St. Patrick's Day Shamrock Craft + FREE printable activities!

This fun shamrock craft only requires a few simple materials and it incorporates fine motor skills! Plus, we've included a free St. Patrick's Day activity pack full of fun printables!

If you've been learning about St. Patrick's Day, your little one may have found an interest in shamrocks. Or, maybe you're just looking for an easy holiday craft for this time of year - either way, you're in the right place! In this post, I'll be sharing a simple shamrock craft for your little one with just a few simple steps and materials. Perfect for early learners, this craft is easily adjustable for children ages 3-6!

Gather These Items:

Make the Shamrock:

1. Cut: Start by cutting out the shamrock shape. If you have an outline, you can cut it ahead of time for your child or, if they are capable, they can cut it out themselves. If you don't have an outline, you can go ahead and draw your own shamrock shape to cut.

Note: a free outline is included in our St. Patrick's Day activity pack, which you can download for free here.

2. Cut or Rip: Cut or rip long strips from the green construction paper. Cutting creates cleaner strips and is good scissor practice for your little one, but ripping can provide a more fun sensory experience and is a good option for little ones who aren't ready for cutting yet!

3. Cut or Rip: Cut or rip the long strips into small squares. The small snips necessary for this step make a great first introduction to scissor use for those little ones who are just starting out!

4. Glue: Glue the small squares onto the shamrock using a glue stick or white glue. Try to cover as much of the shamrock as you can!

5. Trim (optional): When the majority of the shamrock is covered, trim the pieces sticking out around the edges to make a more clear shamrock shape.

That's it! Your shamrock is complete! Hang it somewhere in your home for a fun St. Patrick's Day decoration!

Extension Activities:

This craft is perfect for any holiday - just pick a simple shape related to the holiday and change up the construction paper colour! For example, try a heart for Valentine's Day, or an egg for Easter!
