EASY Night Sky Craft for Preschoolers

This simple night sky activity requires only a few simple materials and encourages fine motor practice for your little one!

Long nights can seem endless during the winter, so why not embrace the season and make a night-themed craft? In this post I'll be sharing a low-prep night-sky activity for early learners. Take a look below to see how it's made!

Gather These Items:

  • Aluminum foil (about 5"x5")

  • Construction paper (black)

  • White crayon

  • Circular object for tracing (~4 or 5 inches in diameter, we used a small bowl)

  • Scissors

  • Glue

  • Optional: Star stickers

Make the Night Sky:

  1. Draw: Start by tracing a circle onto the aluminum foil. You'll want the circle to be ~4 or 5 inches in diameter. Get your child involved by letting them help you trace!

  1. Cut: Cut out the circle from the aluminum foil. If your child is comfortable using scissors, they can complete this step. If they are new to scissors, you can help your child with this step, or pre-cut the circle for them.

  1. Crumple: Gently crumple the foil circle to create texture. You'll want to be careful as the foil can rip easily, so be gentle while crumpling!

  1. Unfold and Glue: Unfold the foil and glue the circle down on the center of the black construction paper. This will be the Moon!

  1. Draw: Use the white crayon to draw stars around the Moon - this could be dots, circles, or star shapes, depending on your child's capabilities and preferences!

  2. Stickers (Optional): Add star stickers around the Moon! Peeling and placing stickers is a great activity for fine motor practice!

7. Write (Optional): If you are practicing letters with your little one, have them write "N" or "M" in the corner for "Night" or "Moon"!
